When Jacob Stern (JST) emails in a list of cars, we need to make sure we are getting the correct information for our Ops team.  Depending on the day of the week, with the exception of Friday (please see Friday’s instructions at the bottom of the process), we will put the cars on the OB list for the current day but we need to add to the switch instructions certain information. Some of the cars will be billed outbound and some of the cars are for JST that the PTRA serves and are considered orders.  Watco stores the cars and JST requests them at their facility on the PTRA.

  1. When you receive an email from JST, you will need to check the billing in ARMS.  If they are billed to a Class 1, they are considered “manifest” cars.  JST will usually state that they are outbound cars. When adding to the OB list, you will put the date, as always, and include the word manifest:

  1. JST will also email in order lists. They will usually let you know that it is an “order”. We may get more than one a day.  Please carefully read the email so that we are providing the correct information to the Ops Team.  They will either send in an excel spreadsheet or email.  If they send in an excel spreadsheet, you will only work the highlighted cars on the spreadsheet.

The email will include the cars they are ordering.  It could also include color coding and how they would like for our Ops Team to line the cars up in the OB train. It’s important that we provide this information to our crews.

We will also need to note if the cars are an order and if so, which order.   We simply do this by numbering the orders as they come in.  Do not put them on in order on your switch list by color. Crews will handle this has they pull the cars: A screenshot of a computer screen

Sometimes, we’ll get more than one order a day.  IF you get another order, follow the same procedure. Check to see that the cars are in pick up status in ARMS, add cars to the switchlist, indicating color and position (if needed) and which order it is:

FRIDAY INSTRUCTIONS:

On Friday of each week, JST will usually send in a car order.  This car order will usually be in a spreadsheet, as described above.  Create a switchlist and follow the instructions provided by JST for your switch instructions, also described above. The only exception on this switchlist, you will date for the following Sunday.  This is the only thing that will go onto this switchlist. Outbound cars will go on today’s OB as manifest cars. If you receive another order, please reach out to the customer to see if it will go on today’s switchlist or Sunday’s. Please send this switchlist to our Ops Team along with the normal OB manifest list by 5pm on Friday.
